Potluck Training & Employment Program

Potluck Café & Catering employs Downtown Eastside community residents with barriers to traditional employment. These barriers typically include material poverty, mental illness, addictions and a lack of stable and affordable housing.

Through Potluck Café & Catering, individuals are empowered to improve their economic stability and self-sufficiency. Potluck provides employees with on-the-job training, mentorship and life skills support so they can manage their barriers and get back on their feet. Our employees gain workplace experience and learn team building skills necessary for maintaining employment. We provide community staff with assistance in navigating challenges inside and outside of work, and connect them with housing and mental health services and ensure they have access to nutritious meals.

Potluck is committed to an inclusive community economic development approach for ending the cycle of poverty in the Downtown Eastside. We endeavor to create paid employment opportunities for neighbourhood residents rather than perpetuate a charity system based on unpaid volunteerism. Each of Potluck's community programs is based on strategies that promote employment in tandem with improved nutrition for community members.
